6.7 Powerstroke Tuner

Improve the performance of your Ford Super Duty F250, F350, F450 and F550 diesel trucks with Motor Ops custom tuning.

The “Scorpion” was Ford’s first venture into building and designing their own in-house diesel engine for light duty pickup trucks and it was added into the Ford Super Duty lineup in 2011. Previous Powerstroke engine models like the 6.4L Powerstroke and 6.0L Powerstroke were designed and built in partnership with Navistar International. Ford’s move to dissolve this partnership was a big move that has clearly paid off well for them. In the first two years of the Scorpion engine there were over 325,000 Super Dutys sold with Scorpion engines.

The first design of the Scorpion engine featured some unique components such as a dual compressor, single turbine turbo design which allowed for quick spool up but limited top end power substantially compared to competitor designs and ended up being a failure prone point. The Scorpion engine also used a high-pressure fuel system very similar to other competitors such as GM’s LML. This high-pressure fuel system allowed engineers to command a shorter injection pulse from the injector but inject the same amount of fuel that a lower pressure system would. This method is precise and proven to dramatically reduce emissions output. On that note – emissions components were not foreign to Ford Super Dutys. The predecessor to the Scorpion engine, the 6.4L Powerstroke, was equipped with an EGR and a DPF. In 2011 with the entry of the Scorpion engine the vehicles were now equipped with a DPF (diesel particulate filter), EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), SCR (selective catalytic reduction), and DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid).

The 2011 to 2014 6.7L Powerstroke delivered approximately 340 rear wheel horsepower and 680 ft lbs of torque from the factory..  After being tuned, it is capable of delivering 480 rear wheel horsepower (RWHP) and 1000 ft-lbs of torque.

With the first four years of success with Ford’s 6.7L Scorpion engine under their belt Ford continued to improve this engine. One very notable change that came into effect on the 2015 models was the redesigned turbo charger. Ford moved away from their dual compressor design and went to a Garrett GT37 VGT turbo which eliminated the turbo failure issue that was seen on the 2011 to 2014 6.7L Powerstroke. This change also gave Ford the ability to increase the factory power of this model up to approximately 380 RWHP and 750 ft lbs of torque. A substantial gain in power, and quite the gain in power over its closest competitor, the LML Duramax.

In 2017 Ford introduced its new body style and continued to keep it paired with their reliable and powerful 6.7L Powerstroke engine. The new body style caught the eyes of many people; it included a modern exterior look, spacious interior, and very well laid out cabin and entertainment centre. The overall engine design remained consistent as did the factory power output and the peak power range of the factory turbo is typically about 580 RWHP and 1300 ft lbs of torque.

How will Motor Ops Tuning improve my Powerstroke 6.7L?

Powerstroke is the most well-rounded vehicle in the light duty diesel pick up world. It delivers a very torquey feel while driving, is very reliable, tows very well, and is smooth and pleasurable as a daily driving vehicle.  In the early years of the Scorpion motor the turbo charger was a big limiter and hindered the top end power levels but in the more recent years the Powerstroke removed that issue.

A tune is one of the best ways to increase the horsepower of your 6.7 Powerstroke, which is why we spent so much time perfecting ours.

Overcoming the torque limitations of the factory calibration gives us the ability to make more peak power and more average horsepower under the curve while using a significantly more conservative tuning strategy. For the consumer this has many benefits. Lower exhaust gas temperatures, lower cylinder pressures, increased efficiency and most importantly, improved reliability.

Powerstroke 6R140 Transmission Tuning

Transmission tuning is so crucial with increased power levels that we decided that we needed to include it in the price of the engine tune. Without the transmission tune the trucks are not capable of holding the power that we command of them. With our transmission tune loaded, our customers can have faith in putting their truck through peak power without damaging any transmission components.

EZ Lynk tuner for Powerstroke.  EFI Live?

Our complete tuning packages include EZ Lynk AutoAgent.  Box tuners such as banks tuner (derringer) or edge tuner are cheap options for Powerstroke owners, but after making the investment in your truck, these box tuners leave a lot on the table in terms of drive ability, peak power, and reliability. Motor Ops Powerstroke tuning will run smoother, produce more power, have lower exhaust gas temperatures under load, and prove to be more reliable than any box tuner on the market.  Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

EFI Live does not offer Powerstroke engine tuning.

EZ Lynk is a cloud based tuning platform where “Technicians” (tuners) provide clients with access to their tunes via the EZ Lynk Cloud. The EZ Lynk Auto Agent 2 allows the user or installer to fetch the tune from their cloud after they have purchased the tune. Users connect the Auto Agent to the OBD2 port and connect to the Auto Agent using their Android or iOS phone or tablet. The user can then use their phone or tablet as a digital gauge display and as a programming device. We provide simple instructions and support.

Should I have a dealer do my tuning?

Many of our customers go to a Motor Ops dealer to have their Powerstroke truck tuned and have other various performance parts installed if they are uncomfortable doing in themselves.  Call us and we will recommend a local performance shop if you don't already have one.  Motor Ops has over 800 dealers that span across North America, Australia, New Zealand, Central America, and Europe.

What about Warranty work, selling or trading my tuned Powerstroke?

If you need to take your vehicle in for warranty work, we recommend removing any aftermarket parts and reinstalling the factory components and resetting to near factory calibrations.  If you are going to trade or sell your tuned Powerstroke truck, we recommend calling your dealer or one in the area and getting an idea on what your vehicle value would be if it were tuned and what vehicle value would be if it were stock.  Typically, dealers are going to give you a much better trade-in value on a vehicle that is completely stock. If you are selling your truck privately then selling it stock versus tuned really depends on what the local market is calling for. Some quick calls to some used car lots and asking how many diesel pickups they usually have in stock, how quickly they run through them, and if any of them are tuned could provide some great education. Additionally, you can do a quick search through on-line marketplaces, social media, etc. Markets differ quite a bit from area to area and the only right answer is to do some research and figure out what increases your trade-in value or private sale value the most.

Other recommended Powerstroke modifications

Aftermarket air intakes are highly recommended. The factory air filters do not support peak power levels that stock turbos are capable of achieving. In the 2011-2014 model trucks we also recommend replacing the plastic intercooler piping with a fabricated piece so that it can handle peak boost pressure.

Contact us by phone for advice during business hours about any aftermarket modifications and how it might affect tuning and the performance of your vehicle.  Our expert sales and support staff will guide you through the process of making the right selections for your Ford diesel truck.
