Collection: 2001 - 2004 LB7 Duramax Tuning

Duramax tuning totally customized to your needs and modifications!

The 2001-2004 6.6L Diesel engine by GM & Isuzu was not only the inception of the Duramax Diesel Engine, but laid a foundation for the Duramax performance models to come. For nearly 20 years we have been calibrating these engines and have arguably the most experience in the Industry doing so.

Why Tune a LB7 Duramax you ask? Well in 2001 when they were released they put down a whopping 235HP and 500FT lbs. of torque. In todays most current Duramax diesel (L5P) we see double that. That leaves a lot to be desired when comparing to newer models.

Although specific 'CALI' or California emissions models were made and sold in the U.S., about 95% of them were sold without any emissions equipment much less the CALI version with EGR only. A pre-emissions/already deleted truck at a much lower entry price to the market? Yes, and that is why we are still tuning these older Duramax diesel models today.

Now before we get to the the fun stuff, looking back on 20 years of wear and tear, the LB7 does have some flaws. While known for being economical with (MPG) or Mile Per Gallon often in the High teens to low 20s, the rest of the fuel system falls short. The most commonly replaced item on a LB7 is the injectors.  The Factory VCO injectors were prone to wear in the nozzle due to poor fuel quality, lubrication, and debris getting into the nozzle. Over time more and more white smoke will become apparent and ultimate leading to a virtually undriveable truck.  A common upgrade to the LB7 Injector/Fuel system is a SAC Style injector found from companies like S&S DIESEL/ S&S Motorsports and others.

The early era Duramax was also limited with an Allison 1000 5 Speed. Over the years the Allison Transmission has really delivered a strong name in the diesel industry and is not weak by any means but was limited on clutch capacity from the factory in the early years, ultimately the 5 Speed Allison falls short when adding more than 125RWHP and 250FTLbs of torque over stock. Now more than likely your 20+ Year old truck has seen it's fair share of upgraded parts but maybe it is not running as it should? Well that is where we come in. Duramax Tuning for LB7, LL7, LBZ, LMM, LML, & L5P is our specialty. From upgrade injectors, pumps, nozzles, turbos, Built transmissions, ETC! We have Tune them all from pull trucks, drag trucks, and weekend warriors! Have questions about tuning your Big Injector, Big Turbo, Compound Turbo, dual fueler setup? We promise we will make tuning and supporting your diesel as easy as possible.

LB7 Switch on the Fly, DSP5

When you have a DSP5 tune (shift on the fly), it has opportunity to adjust the tune based on the scenario. This gives the driver the ability to flip it into a performance tune whenever they want it. Drivers want the most power they can get in each application while maintaining reliability. That’s what Motor Ops delivers with our purpose built shift on the fly (DSP5) tuning.

LB7 ECM Tuning

Motor Ops tunes are clean running tunes and, in many cases, produce less smoke output than a factory calibration. Our tow tunes are proven to have EGTs 100F lower than a factory calibration under load. Our tuning achieves market leading power gains without running high timing rates like many other tuners do; in fact, our tuning is within 2* of the OEM timing maps. All of these things will keep your truck on the road and prevent premature wear or engine failure on your LB7.

LB7/LLY TCM Tuning

Transmission tuning is strongly encouraged for any users going above factory power output. Motor Ops Transmission tuning addresses shift points, shift timing, and torque converter lockup strategy. We are not able to control line pressure on the LB7, LLY, LBZ, or LMM trucks like we do on LML and L5P trucks BUT addressing the shift points, shift timing, and torque converter lockup strategy on LLY trucks does improve the drive-ability drastically; if a user has larger tire size than stock, and aftermarket turbo, or just doesn’t appreciate the way their truck’s transmission operates the transmission tuning will put a smile on their face.

EFI Live for LLY?

Most LB7 owners go with EFI Live because EFI Live has developed DSP (Duramax switchable programming) which is also commonly referred to as switch on the fly.

EFI Live Auto Cal V3 follows a more traditional tuning sequence where the tuning company such as Motor Ops loads their tunes onto the EFI Live Auto Cal and the user simply plugs the EFI Live Auto Cal into the OBD2 port and the tune is loaded in using the EFI Live Auto Cal to carry out the commands.  We also provide simple instructions and support for EFI installations.

Should I have a dealer do my tuning?

Maybe half of our customers go to a Motor Ops dealer to have their LLY tuned and have other various performance parts installed if they are uncomfortable doing in themselves.  Tuning an LB7/LLY on EFI Live or on EZ Lynk is a very simple process and there are tons of resources available to the DIY guys.  Call us and we will recommend a local performance shop if you don't already have one.  Motor Ops has over 800 dealers that span across North America, Australia, New Zealand, Central America, and Europe.
