HP Tuner's SOTF (Switch on the Fly) custom operating system is the smoothest switch on the fly on the market in that it does not require any additional hardware - you select your tune right from your steering wheel - watch our video for a demonstration. Prior to this you had to flash each tune in using the MPVI3 from your computer for specific use and then do it again if you wanted to change tunes. If you purchased our L5P Single Tune or All Four Pack, you can upgrade from single to the L5P Switch on the Fly by clicking the SOTF Tune upgrade product.
In order to tune an L5P Duramax ECM you must first either unlock the ECU using HP Tuners E41 Upgrade Cable or install an unlocked ECM from HP Tuners. The E41 Upgrade Cable keeps the cost down for the customer and simplifies the process compared to installing a new unlocked ECM. On the flip side, installing an unlocked ECM from HP Tuners ensures that you can put an untouched ECM back into the truck should you choose to trade your vehicle in or return it to stock for any warrantee work. 95% of our customers decide to use the E41 Upgrade Cable because of its simple operation and the cost savings.
In 2020 GM introduced the 10 Speed Transmission into its lineup. This is the first time that a 10 speed transmission had been part of the 3/4 ton or 1 ton line up. There are many benefits to having the 10 speed transmission in the 2020-2023 L5P Duramax but many operators found that the transmission lacked an ability to keep the truck in the peak power zone and that it was constantly shifting which made the truck feel even lower on power.
Don't fear the 10 speed transmission on these truck because Motor Ops can solve those issues with our T93 Transmission tuning. We focus on improving the shift quality, the shift points, torque converter lock up strategy, and increasing the line pressure. All of this translates to a 10 speed transmission with improved reliability and a much better driving experience for the vehicle operator.
Transmission tuning does require that you install an upgraded (unlocked) T93 TCM and 4 HP Tuners Universal Credits to tune the TCM. We offer transmission tuning on all of our 2020-2023 L5P Duramax Products and we also have the hardware in stock ready to ship for you.
In 2017 GM introduced the L5P Duramax engine to their 2500 and 3500 pickup vehicles. The L5P boasted significant improvements in engine design over its predecessor, the LML Duramax engine. The L5P Duramax features a redesigned DPF, SCR, DEF and EGR system, a significant increase in OEM power over its predecessor, completely redesigned turbo, and various other engine configuration changes.
Motor Ops tunes are clean running tunes and, in many cases, produce less smoke output than a factory calibration does. Our tow tunes are proven to have EGTs 100F lower than a factory calibration under load. Our tuning achieves market leading power gains without running high timing rates like many other tuners do; in fact, our tuning is within 2* of the OEM timing maps.
